Sean Patrick Lynch, 36, was an interest-rate options broker for Cantor Fitzgerald. He was on the 105th floor of tower 1 on September 11th, 2006.
He was the father of two daughters and one son on the way, born two months after his death. In his honor, his son is named Sean Patrick Lynch, Jr. That is who I'd like to talk to today:
To: Sean Patrick Lynch, Jr.
Dear Sean,
Now that you are approaching your 5th birthday, I'd like to tell you a few things I've read about your dad.
He was known to leave for work everyday at 5 a.m. Some would think that's due to being a workaholic. But those that knew him realized he did that to get home early to see your two older sisters. I'm sure he would have kept it up to see you as well.
Something tells me he'd be out there now, shooting basketballs with you at a goal he would have installed just to play with you. Or maybe you all would be at a Knicks game. Or the Jets or Mets, for he rooted for them all.
He loved reading. Many things he was known to read you might be reading some day. Tom Clancy novels, Sports Illustrated, biographies of U.S. Presidents...the list goes on and on.
I've been reading a lot lately myself, Sean. About those who were with your dad a couple of months before you were born. They all had unique stories. But what stands out the most was how honorable each and every one of their lives were. Your dad was no exception.
I'm sure your mom has many other stories she's told you about him. She's probably told you a few stories more than once. Keep listening...I'm sure there will be some new twist to the stories the next time it's told.
In closing, I'd like to say that many of us throughout the country will continue to remember you in our thoughts and prayers. Thanks for reading, Sean.
-Colonel Steve
