Quote of the Day

"It does seem to reflect a willingness . . . to change on positions, to be more liberal in the primary, to moving more conservative in the general election.  I guess I should welcome that, but it looks like, to me, either inexperience or incredible flip-flopping." - Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas, in response to Barack Obama's latest series of opinion reversals.

Just a few of those flip-flops:  the FISA bill, the Supreme Court gun control decision, taking then not taking public financing of his campaign, and changes in his thoughts on NAFTA.

Sadly, the democrats seem to have a string of these candidates for president.  John Kerry couldn't seem to stay away from his flip-flops.  May Barack Obama have the same success as John F. Kerry did with his.

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” - Senator Barack Obama, in reference to how ugly the general election campaign might get.

According to Barack himself, those who are bitter cling to guns and religion.  I guess that means he's preparing to get half bitter now.

The campaign for McCain is glad to see Obama rethinking his opposition to guns.  They may just be a little worried to show up now that Obama may be packing it.

Others discussing this: Ed Morrissey and John Hinderaker.

Quote of the Day

"This is a dangerous time in America, the freest country in the world, where you have to whisper your thoughts." - Father Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church in Chicago, in reference to being silenced by his Cardinal, Francis George.

Get used to it Father.  Join the club of conservatives, who have been likewise silenced on their pulpits.  Look at the guide put out by the Americans United for Church and State.  You think the statements made in this guide has EVER been enforced towards liberal candidates?  Can you say "no way"? Consider this statement from the website mentioned above:

Church endorsements of candidates and statements of opposition to candidates are strictly forbidden and can result in revocation of a church's tax-exempt status.

You think your comments about Hillary Clinton just might be "statements of opposition to candidates"?  Yet I don't see these guys knocking on your door, or Trinity United Church of Christ's door.  If anything close to this was done in support of a conservative candidate, I don't think we'd have to wait long for these folks to get noisy.

Quote of the Day

“We’ve got a totally irrational system of nominating our president."  - Senator Carl Levin of Michigan, in reference to the democratic party's presidential candidate nomination process.

No matter what they decided for Michigan and Florida, it was destined to be a lose-lose situation all around.  Now we've got:

1) Half a vote delegates, so like the Constitution compromise of the slave 3/5ths of a person decision.
2) Democrats are now looking like the "every vote does not count" party.
3) Barack Obama gets delegates in Michigan even when his name wasn't on the ballot.
4) Now seen as going back against their original decision in Michigan and Florida.  No backbone.  Now they are the party of little or no penalties for breaking rules.

Quote of the Day

"There is a large block of Republicans, particularly economic conservatives, who just feel that the Republican Party in Washington completely let them down.  The Republicans have really given these donors no reason to give." - Anthony Corrado, government professor at Colby College in Maine who specializes in campaign finance.

Sadly, by reading the article that quote above came from, one finds out that Barack Obama becomes the big winner of these donors.  The pork stunts that senators and representatives did, leading up to their defeat in 2006, has continued to lead to this.  Considering that the RNC coffers are much lower than the DNC right now, one would hope the message is getting across.

The biggest sadness in this centers around what Barack Obama will do economically if he becomes the one sworn in January 2009.  If these donors are truly economic conservatives, they best be looking at Obama's tax plans.  These donors could have done 1 of 3 things:  1) continued giving to republicans, 2) give nothing to anyone, or 3) give to democrats.  In my opinion, they should have chosen 2, over choice 3 they followed.  Maybe, by buying Obama's ear, some message might sink in with him, but somehow I doubt it.

“I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” – Barack Hussein Obama, in The Audacity of Hope

In print, for all to see.  Can't take it back.  Maybe republish, in a George Orwell 1984 style of doing things.  But it's there, for all to see.

Another Barack Obama Gaffe

"On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong." - Barack Obama, delivering a Memorial Day speech in New Mexico.

Memorial Day honors the men and women who died defending our nation.  I am sure people of honor were part of the crowd listening to him.  I'm wondering if he can tell the difference between the two groups.

Quote of the Day

"What it says is that I'm not very well known in that part of the country.  Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it's not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle." - Senator Barack Obama, on some of the reasons why Senator Clinton is likely to win Kentucky's primary on Tuesday, May 20th.

I do give Obama some consideration in knowing that he is likely to be beat in the democratic primary here in Kentucky.  But, at looking at just this line alone, I wonder even more about the geography lessons he had as a child (also see his recent problems with Sioux Falls and Sioux City here).

Let's see, Arkansas IS close to Kentucky, as stated, but not quite as close as Obama's home state of Illinois.  Matter of fact, the state he represents in the Senate actually borders Kentucky.  Please, will somebody in the Obama campaign get Barack a map.  With all 50 states.  Draw in the other 7, if needed, so he'll recognize it.

I'm not convinced it's Kentucky knowing Senator Clinton that's the issue.  I think it's Obama not knowing Kentucky that's the issue.

Quote of the Day

"I respect the Court's decision and as Governor, I will uphold its ruling. . . I will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling." - California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, in reference to the 4-3 state supreme court ruling allowing gay marriages in California.

So let me get this straight.  In 2000, Proposition 22, defining marriage as between a man and a woman, won by a 61% to 39% margin.  Millions of Californians voted in this.  Then, 4 state supreme court judges rule otherwise, invalidating the votes of millions of Californian voters (can you say disenfranchised?).  And now, the Governor agrees with the kings and queens on the thrones...whoops, I mean judges on the bench?  Seems to be taking us back to the colonial days, being ruled by good old King George.  Definitely not the government of the people, by the people, and for the people that Abraham Lincoln so fondly spoke of.

Liberals love using the judicial branch for making rulings in their favor.  Next time they speak of voter being disenfranchised, I think I will be throwing this one back at them.

Quote of the Day

"I can think of only one Republican who can be a problem-solver, and that would be Vice President (Dick) Cheney, if he will just take George on a hunting trip." - Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear.

I heard enough of fellow Kentuckians saying Ernie Fletcher made us look bad, when the plane taking him to Ronald Reagan's funeral dropped the transponder signal and forced an evacuation of the U.S. Capitol.  This one's makes that one pale in comparison.

To paraphrase Rhymes with Right comments: What if this had been said about Barack, Hillary, or some other liberal?  There wouldn't be enough ink to print the press hatred of that.

Oh well.  Some days, I'm just embarrassed to be a Kentuckian.
