Movie Quotes That Could Be Political

"INCONCEIVABLE." - Vizzini, in The Princess Bride.

I picture the Obama campaign, hearing of the announcement of a female for the Republican Vice-President position, saying this over and over again like Vizzini.

I again picture the Obama campaign, seeing their recent falling poll numbers, saying these same words over and over again.  They must really believe it is truly inconceivable to be saying some of the quotes they have made over the past few days.

General Hammond / Don S. Davis

It's sad to hear that on June 29th, Don S. Davis, who portrayed General George Hammond, passed away.  His Air Force General portrayal always impressed me.  A strict, in command leader who always made sure his folks were brought home.

Will They Be Missed....Again?

First, it was the recent writers' strike that stopped production in Hollywood.  Now on it's heels comes a possible actors' strike.

No wonder my Netflix queue is full of oldies.

Next Stargate SG-1 Movie

July 29th is the release date for Stargate - Continuum.  Nice thing about the High Def format wars being over, this is the first Stargate release to go Blu-ray.

Around The News Today

Susan Sarandon has stated that, if Senator John McCain is elected, she will move to either Italy or Canada.  My vote is to help her plan her move.  Anyone see some sort of movie star watch list for this election, I'd sure love to know.

Speaking of watch lists, John Fund at the Wall Street Journal speaks of Barack Obama's history of gaffes.  He is sure making enough of them for someone to have a watch list going for the gaffes.  Could be a full time job.

We've got computers being trained to read our minds.  Sure would help some of us men.  Finally, we could do those things our wives assumed we could do.

Closer to home, the University of Louisville's Rauch Planetarium is running the show "The Planets", narrated by Kate Mulgrew (Captain Kathryn Janeway on "Star Trek: Voyager").

Latest Netflix Offering

Netflix is now offering a TV top box to watch movies on TV.  This is designed as an extension of their instant watch offering, that streams movies and tv shows to your computer.

As much as I love watching the instant offering from Netflix, I am going to have to seriously consider picking up one.  At $99.99, I consider it a bargain.  Although Netflix does not offer instant watching of real recent movies, I still consider it a very good competitor to cable's offerings.  Probably because I already use it alot.

Prince Caspian

No doubting where I will be later today.  The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian opens today.  Considering the crowds I'm expecting to see there, I so love movietickets.com!!!!

TV executives are afraid of the public!!!

According to Jeff Johnson's article entitled TV execs argue against 'a la carte' cable at OneNewsNow.com, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin has advocated for consumers to be able to choose their own programming by choosing the channels they want instead of taking a whole bundle.  This means that consumers could choose what channels they want to pay for and ONLY pay for those channels.  That sounds like a great deal to me.  There are many channels that I, not only don't watch, but don't care to support either.

However, TV executives think this is a bad idea.  They even claim it would "outrage" consumers.  They claim that many diverse programs would not make it off the ground if consumers got to choose.

WOW!!!  That says a lot!  Consumers could actually drive the market.  What a concept!  Supply and demand would really be at work.   I think it would be great if TV lineups operated like the rest of the market.

I think we should all contact the FCC and let them know what we want.  OneNewsNow.com is doing a survey regarding what consumers think.  The question was "Would you, as a consumer, feel worse off or better off should cable 'a la carte' become a reality?  At the time, I took the poll, there were  4183 responses and they voted:

2.46% thought they would be worse off

82.72% thought they would be better off

5.26% were unsure

9.56% were not cable subscribers

Movie Suggestion

A couple of movies we've watched lately are Jefferson Moore's The Perfect Stranger and Another Perfect Stranger (neither to be confused with Bruce Willis and Halle Berry in Perfect Stranger).  Great family movies.

I didn't know this until I started watching the first one, but these are filmed and produced right here in Louisville.

Interesting pairing of news articles I pulled off of news.google.com:

Netflix shares reach all-time high, Blockbuster up

Gee....if they stay down long enough, their stock should go sky high!

Real bummer for me, for I love Netflix's online movie watching.  I was even planning on using it tonight.  If it's been down since 10am Eastern this morning, I doubt it'll be back up anytime real soon.
