Afraid of Letting the People Decide

The upcoming California ballot initiative is being challenged in court.  The challenge is based on technical issues of how it was drafted.

The Alliance Defense Fund, one of the groups backing the ballot measure, said the groups are "desperate to evade democracy."

"The opponents of marriage are willing to use any means necessary to impose their will,"said ADF attorney Glen Lavy.

I agree with Glen.  California is moving away from a democracy, towards a monarchy.  In their case, the members of the monarchy happen to sit on judicial benches.

Quote of the Day

"I respect the Court's decision and as Governor, I will uphold its ruling. . . I will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling." - California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, in reference to the 4-3 state supreme court ruling allowing gay marriages in California.

So let me get this straight.  In 2000, Proposition 22, defining marriage as between a man and a woman, won by a 61% to 39% margin.  Millions of Californians voted in this.  Then, 4 state supreme court judges rule otherwise, invalidating the votes of millions of Californian voters (can you say disenfranchised?).  And now, the Governor agrees with the kings and queens on the thrones...whoops, I mean judges on the bench?  Seems to be taking us back to the colonial days, being ruled by good old King George.  Definitely not the government of the people, by the people, and for the people that Abraham Lincoln so fondly spoke of.

Liberals love using the judicial branch for making rulings in their favor.  Next time they speak of voter being disenfranchised, I think I will be throwing this one back at them.

Marriage: It Ain't About You!

I saw this post today concerning the book Sacred Marriage: What if God Designed Marriage to Make Us Holy More Than to Make Us Happy?

Note the subtitle.  But....But...isn't marriage all about being happy?  Aren't I supposed to get something from it?  What about ME?

Maybe that's the problem today.  If it's all about us, we're gonna leave when the going gets tough.  We're gonna add ourselves to the latest divorce statistic if there's something we don't like.

But, as suggested, what happens when it's all about the other one?  Walking away isn't so easy then.  Thinking about what's good for them is not only part of the picture, it IS the picture.  We then have a marriage that both want to keep.  A marriage that, when all is said and done, is worth keeping.

Wow.  I love it.
