Bruce Lunsford's Photo Op

Granted, a lot of the photo ops that politicians do are sometimes things they are not comfortable with or are things that they don't do every day.  One of Bruce Lunsford's stops in Richmond, Kentucky shows us something he doesn't do very often.

I respect the fact that Bruce is a self-made millionaire.  Kudos for being successful, as many should aspire to.  Sadly, tho, this stop shows he should've done a little research.  Maybe talk to his chauffeur before doing his photo op.

I've seen a few of the Stephen Colbert Comedy Central interviews, and found them interesting and humorous.  But this one with George Will is tops.

The Anchoress says all that I would have said about this interview.  Even within a comedy show, the brilliant Will gives lessons in freedom and conservatism.

'Family Circus' Mommy Inspiration Dies

Bil Keane's wife Thelma, his inspiration for the Mommy character in the cartoon Family Circus, has died at 82.

Bil and Thelma "Thel" Keane met during World War II in the war bond office in Brisbane, Australia. She was a native Australian working as an accounting secretary, and Bil worked next to her as a promotional artist for the U.S. Army.

"I had this desk alongside the most beautiful Australian 18-year-old girl with long brown hair," Bil Keane said. "And I got up enough nerve to ask her for a date."

Bil started the cartoon in 1960, the year before I came along.  Needless to say, I grew up with that Mommy Thelma inspired.  Considering that cartoon character, the original would have been a treasure to meet.  Her legacy will live on.

OK, so maybe I don't have a girlfriend (outside of Lady Colonel).  But I sure have enough relatives asking the same type questions she did.  Any other techies out there getting similar requests?

Landing Practice?

It's been said that, in flying aircraft, a good landing is one you are able to walk away from.  A landing at Roanoke airport outside of Dallas fits this description.  A student pilot landing his aircraft managed to land right on top of one preparing to take off.

This would be humiliating enough, except that the pilot of the aircraft on the ground was also the student pilot's next door neighbor.  Ouch.

John McCain

With everything I've seen of John McCain, and his snipes at the conservative end of the Republican Party, I can see Scott Ott's paradies (here and here) being almost believable.  It puts Rush's comments in better light, when he basically said that a lot of Republicans may find themselves crossing the aisle to vote for McCain.

Oh the power of man.  That we could cause such terrible things to happen in nature.  Such strength, to cause global warming and such as that.

Wait.  You mean all this isn't caused by man?  But some volcano in Chile?  You mean to tell me that God's nature is more powerful than man?

Newest item in the jewelry world....Obama's American flag.  Maybe he will actually wear this one.  Oh, that's right, we don't need a flag on our lapel to be patriotic.  We just need to remember our history and geography.
