Vulnerable Lawmakers Vote No

It's been noted that many of those who voted 'no' to the House bailout plan were those in a vulnerable district.  Consider a few things about this vote:

  • Nancy Pelosi's speech prior to the vote suggests Republicans are out to mess all of this up.
  • John Yarmuth is a Democrat.
  • John Yarmuth voted 'no'.

Considering that Yarmuth is surely no Republican messing things up, I'd say he's running scared about his chances in November.  And I thought our fair representative followed Pelosi's lead.

John Yarmuth and 94 of his Democratic buddies voted no.  I'd say a few are actually listening to their people back home.

Karl Marx Would Be Proud

Martin Masse wrote yesterday in the National Post how the recent moves by the federal government fits part of Karl Marx's plans.

Palin = Obama?

Andrew Halcro is someone who has debated Governor Sarah Palin previously.  Based on his discussions about those debates, I wonder if he thinks Governor Palin is equivalent to Senator Barack Obama.

Palin is a master of the nonanswer. She can turn a 60-second response to a query about her specific solutions to healthcare challenges into a folksy story about how she's met people on the campaign trail who face healthcare challenges. All without uttering a word about her public-policy solutions to healthcare challenges.

That sure is my opinion of Barack Obama.  Guru of the non-answer, that says everything and nothing all at once.

In one debate, a moderator asked the candidates to name a bill the legislature had recently passed that we didn't like. I named one. Democratic candidate Tony Knowles named one. But Sarah Palin instead used her allotted time to criticize the incumbent governor, Frank Murkowski. Asked to name a bill we did like, the same pattern emerged: Palin didn't name a bill.

I will give Obama credit.  He does name bills.  Just not one he really has anything to do with.  Mostly, he votes present.

And when she does answer the actual question asked, she has a canny ability to connect with the audience on a personal level. For example, asked to name a major issue that had been ignored during the campaign, I discussed the health of local communities, Mr. Knowles talked about affordable healthcare, and Palin talked about ... the need to protect hunting and fishing rights.

Now that one IS unique to Governor Palin.  She can connect with the common person.  Barack Obama, however, is way above the common person.

Voter Registration for Kentucky and Indiana

October 6th is the deadline for voter registration in Indiana and Kentucky.  For Kentucky, you can get the mail in voter registration form here.

Palin's Moment?

Can Mark Goldblatt see the future?  I hope so.  I particular liked this line:

I didn’t come to convince voters that I could be a Jeopardy champion. If that’s the main qualification for the vice presidency, then I’d suggest both Sen. Biden and I step aside for Ken Jennings.

But read the whole thing, it's worth it:  "Palin's Moment"

Obama and Acorn

Today, Stanley Kurtz spoke about Obama's connection to Acorn and thus his connection to the financial crisis on Fox News.

Kurtz said that Madeline Talbot was at the heart of training organizers in intimidating tactics used at banks to coerce them to give high risk loans.  Obama was taught by Madeline Talbot.  He continued working for Acorn and even taught conferences while he was working at a law firm.  His connections to Acorn remain strong even today.  You can read about this here.

This information needs to get to everyone.  Other than Fox News, the media won't get this information out.  It's up to you.

Obama is Gooooooddddd!!!!

Today in a speech at Detroit, Obama accused McCain of "lurching from photo op to photo op, trying to figure out what to say and what to do."  Obama has not liked the fact that McCain went off the campaign trail to work on a plan for the massive bail-out.  Who else in the world could stand in front of thousands of supporters with the press clamoring everywhere to get a pic of him and a mic in front of him and accuse his opponent of trying to get a photo op when the opponent is in an office, without any cameras around making phone calls and has removed his advertising and is not doing campaign stops during this crisis?  Wow!  Now that really is politics!  (And classic Obama)

Obama wants to help businesses by providing higher taxes

Today, Obama said "once the bailout plan is passed, "we need to move with the same sense of urgency to help families on Main Street. We don't just need a plan for bankers and investors, we need a plan for autoworkers and teachers and small business owners."that just like we were rescuing "Wall Street", we needed to rescue and provide for "Main Street."  Interesting.

Hmmm!  Main Street = small businesses.  Those are the same ones that Obama wants to punish by additional taxes.  Oh wait, they are to be more patriotic and be forced to pay higher taxes.  I guess paying higher taxes is getting help???

Bracelet Debate

There is some debate currently about whether the family behind Barack Obama's bracelet wanted him to mention it during his "me, too" moment in Friday's debate.  (See newsbusters and Jake Tapper).

At any rate, I agree with the commenter on Jake Tapper's blog:

In the debate Obama reminded me of a impatient teen trying to interrupt McCain by facial expression and waving his hand to get attention to himself. You could tell that McCain was irritated at this Childs play and interruption by a immature President contender.

Not quite from the beginning, but early on, Barack took on this childish "me, too" or "pick me, pick me!" hand raising look each time John McCain spoke.  The bracelet comment added insult to this one-upmanship.  If the family did request silence, it should be honored.

Headline Pairing

Couldn't help but notice this headline pairing on Drudgereport:

Bailout bill, once 3 pages, swells in length...

Pelosi: We're back on track...

So, um, does that mean, politically speaking, that bigger = "back on track" (or status quo)?
