Newt Gingrich has confessed to participating in an extramarital affair at the same time as Bill Clinton was being tried for perjury regarding his own affair. Newt says he should not be judged as a hypocrite for prosecuting Clinton. Since Clinton was being prosecuted for the lies rather than for the sex, Gingrich would not be a hypocrite on that account.
That being said, however, one of the reasons conservatives felt that Clinton was unfit for office was his history of cheating on his wife. That is still a disqualifying factor in my mind (and, I daresay, in many other conservatives' minds). Despite his considerable intellectual and leadership skills, and his conservative credentials, this would prevent me from voting for him in the primary if he runs for the GOP presidential nomination.
Note that Rudy Giuliani also had an extramarital affair and that, along with his other socially liberal leanings, eliminates him from getting my vote in the primary.
Of course, if either one of them wins the nomination I would grit my teeth and vote for them over any of the likely Democrat candidates.

Red, glad to see your moral principles mean so much to you. It would be hypocritical to base them on politics.

By the way, I like your blog and have added you to my own blogroll. I'm an evangelical Christian conservative blogger in Australia where I seem to be in a minority (but I'm working on it)

So true...but it was also his lies that many found repulsive.
