The Fat Lady Has Sung

Sooo much has taken place from yesterday through today that it's taken me all day just to catch my breath.  And to make sense of it all.

So many folks have talked, wrote, and otherwise discussed the whipping conservatives took yesterday.  Now that both the House AND the Senate are in the hands of democrats, conservatives have got time to consider what has to take place for 2008.

One thing I'm for certain on....Hillary Clinton has been embolden by this election.  Come 2008, there will be no doubt she will be running, and running strong.  We as conservatives need to consider who's up to task to successfully take her on.

Meanwhile, we've got two years to work through what many consider to be a gridlock...a liberal Capitol Hill and a conservative White House.  But Bush's comments on a minimum wage hike really makes one wonder on the conservative adjective before White House.  It's definitely not time to make nice with the liberal side of the aisle.  Conservatives have been doing that while they ran the place, only to be jerked around later.  Liberals will not be doing the same for conservatives.

It will be time to consider how we work through things like judicial nominations and legislation.  Like, is it time for filibusters?  Or finding the lost veto pen?  Or a myriad of other possible options to show that the conservatives still on the hill get it.  That they get the message from the election.

That message has nothing to do with Iraq.  Joe Lieberman winning in Connecticut goes against that thought.  No, I think it's Republicans on the Hill forgetting why they were elected and becoming more like democrats.  As in voting in more pork, not voting in valid immigration legislation, and negotiating with the minority liberals like the liberals were the majority when we elected them (the conservatives) to run the place.

I did vote Republican on Tuesday.  I disliked the thought of voting against Republican's just to "teach them a lesson".  I have feared what a liberal majority would bring us.  But now that it has happened, maybe some will learn the lesson behind it.

UPDATE: One post from Captain Ed at Captain's Quarters shows at least one member of Congress that "gets it".  Hugh Hewitt posts on one group who doesn't get it.

» Why did republicans loose? from Dave's Place
It's clear to me that what happened Tuesday night was not a Democratic win, it was a Republican loss. The majority of the Republican base got out to vote and voted for the party. The Republican loss was due to [Read More]
