"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." -Senator John Kerry, D-MA.
"As it stands, he owes an apology to the men and women who are serving in Iraq out of patriotism and love of country, not because of any academic deficiencies." - Senator John Kerry, R-AZ.
Leave it to our wise, intelligent, educated, and respectful troops to find the humor in a very despicable comment. They show much more grace than I do. Thank God he is not their commander-in-chief.
Michelle Malkin sums up my opinions well, including many Air Force statistics showing our troops may be more educated than Kerry himself.
Yes, he has apologized today .... finally. However, Tony Snow is correct in his determination as to why this quote is such a big deal:
White House spokesman Tony Snow said Kerry's failure to do so on Tuesday was the reason it blew up into a broader debate.
"We're not the one who whipped this up into a big issue. Senator Kerry did so yesterday. He's the guy who put the gasoline on the fire," Snow said on CBS.
Also, as posted by Instapundit, La Shawn Barber is in the position of defending John Kerry. Botched joke or not, sorry La Shawn. Troops who are putting their life on the line for me are beyond being used for a political joke. Adding insult to injury is the "I'm not apologizing" comment a day after, then finally apologizing only to save face politically for his party. Our men and women in uniform are worth much more than being political pawns.
With all this in mind, continue to remember those troops who have served and are currently in need through the Valour-IT project. (Donations can be made through banner on top right of our blog.)
-Colonel Steve
