Boys and Girls are...Gasp!...Different!
One of my favorite subjects to read and research about is the difference between men and women. It's like, when God made us in His image, he couldn't contain it all on one gender. So He had to create two.
We learn about these differences very early in life. The book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten (by Robert Fulghum) mentions facts learnt like how to share, or that girls are really different than boys.
Somehow, in growing up, we adults become more educated. In this education, we forget the facts we learnt in our youth. Jennifer Roback Morse opins in today's townhall.com about these facts we have re-learnt. She speaks of the myth being presented today that boys and girls have the same talents when it comes to math and science. She even speaks of some evidence in her own life that suggest that this myth is just that....a myth.
I too have similar experiences. Anyone who has read this blog realize that I love astronomy. Something my wife and I like doing is going out with our astronomy club, setting up our telescopes so others can view the stars with us.
The last time we did this, my wife brought along our service dog in training. One group of kids gathered around me and my telescope, while another gathered around my wife and a cute golden retriever. Guess what? The group around me were boys, the group around my wife were girls. The boys were so interested in the stars, planets, and other "stuff" like that. The girls were asking questions about training, the handicapped who will use them, and how they could do training like that.
Imagine that. Boys interested in science and girls interested in service. Equal interests, just different.
