B A C K B O N E

That's how Webster's Dictionary, or Mister Rodgers, would spell backbone.  Synonymous with spine.

Today, I am still waiting for our Republicans in the Senate to find one.  Maybe just one among the fifty-five of them would do.  Today's compromise on the immigration bill is just one more example of a lack of backbone.

As Carol Platt Libeau notes, no comments "reported" about the bill having border security in it.  Just deals on how one can become a citizen.  But Hugh Hewitt's sources said the fence is still in there (HT: The Anchoress).

I'm still convinced we're making it too easy.  We're asking for more to cross, only to have to go through this again in another 10-15 years.  Words still mean things.  Like the word "i l l e g a l".
