To Each His Own Opinion
As most years, I watched the Time Square party with the crystal ball bringing in the new year. This year, I watched it on ABC.
I found it both encouraging and sad to watch this with Dick Clark's return to the show. For many years, Dick was the guy who never aged. He seemed to blend in with all the teen-agers on Bandstand. The sad side was to witness the effects of age on an American icon.
What was encouraging to me was to actually see him brave an appearance on public TV. Many a lesser man would have not even made a try. I personally took pride in his "nothing gonna stop me" attitude.
I see Leopold Stotch over at Outside the Beltway disagrees with me. His opinion is just that - opinion. However, I think he's gone overboard with his "retarded" wisecrack.

Update: Leopold has updated his post with 2 updates. His last update explains his change the title of the post from "Is Dick Clark Retarded?" to "On Dick Clark (see updates)". Wise move. I believe the blogosphere rounds did what it has always done...generally straightening things out. Thank you, Leo, from moving things from wisecracks and put downs to now just differences of opinion.
I wholeheartedly agree with you about Dick Clark. When I'm 76, I hope I have half the resilience and positive attitude that he has. He's a fine man, and anyone who mocks him should really think twice - no one ever knows what might happen in their life or in the lives of their loved ones. We're all dealt a different card, but what sets some apart from others is what we do with that card.
