Congressman Murtha - Huh?
Hugh Hewitt has followed on his radio show and his blog the story of Congressman John Murtha's comments today in congress. See his full comments at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Weblog. Yeah, it's a liberal website, and they're so proud of his speech today that they posted the whole speech as well as his resolution to redeploy troops from Iraq.
Also, as Hugh reported, Murtha's answer to a reporter says alot:
I like guys who have never been there to criticize us who have been there. I like that. I like guys that have got five deferments and never been there ands end people to war and then don't like to hear suggestions about what needs to be done.
This is in reference to Cheney's military deferments. Another caller on the show mentioned no one mentioned or argued FDR's probable deferments due to polio having any effect on his status as commander-in-chief. Nor did anyone argue about the military serving under Clinton, who basically squirmed his way out of serving altogether, National Guard, Reserve, or anything. As our Constitution so blatently spells out, our military serves a civilian government. None of them would think of serving in any other way.
Another caller, a Marine, mentioned that Murtha's comments today basically throws away the 30-plus years Murtha served in the Marines. No proud Marine would say the things he said today.
Contact John Murtha and let him know your opinion, especially those in his 12th district of Pennsylvannia.

I would like to know why a marine with 37 in the service, who is only a colonel, thinks he can manage the war?
